How To Fix That Broken Eye Shadow Palette

Moms will save up their loyalty points so they can splurge on those items that may be a bit more than they are accustomed to spending so there's really nothing more disheartening than finally getting that palette you've been saving for only to have it break apart!

Every woman knows the frustration that comes when you accidentally fumble your eye shadow palette or compact that immediately breaks the second you drop it. Although you may feel like all is lost and you're ready to toss your expensive powder makeup in the trash, there are a few ways you can fix that broken eye shadow palette that will save your wallet and yourself another trip to the store.

Use A Makeup Wipe

You don't have to cry over a broken eye shadow palette, favorite pressed powder, or beautiful broken blush because there are a few ways you can repair your broken powder makeup. One way to repair is by using a makeup wipe. The makeup experts at L'Oreal Paris USA recommend taking your broken powder and further crushing it until it's a fine powder. Then, take one of your makeup wipes and use it to press the powder into a solid form once again. The moisture from your makeup wipe will help turn that finely pigmented powder into a solid form once again. Once your makeup has been allowed time to dry you can then use it normally.

Rubbing Alcohol

Another popular and easy way to repair cracked and broken makeup is by using rubbing alcohol. Again, you take your broken makeup and proceed to grind it until the powder is fine, and then you add a small amount of rubbing alcohol to the mixture. You can pour the rubbing alcohol directly onto the powder or you can use a spray bottle, but make sure you saturate the powder. You then use a makeup brush, coin, or anything that fits the shape of your container to press the powder and shape it into a solid form once again. After letting the makeup dry you're ready to use it again! If only one of the shades in a palette has broken and needs repair, ensure you cover the other colors so they don't get any rubbing alcohol on them.

Cosmetic chemist Randy Schueller told Allure that using the rubbing alcohol method is a great way to save you from having to pitch your beloved makeup, but it might not be the exact same quality as before it broke. "Pressed powder cakes are held together by two things: oils that act as glue to hold the particles together, and the pressure that is is put on the cakes by metal rods during the manufacturing process," he told the magazine. "You can reconstitute a broken cake of pressed powder with alcohol, but it's only a temporary, cosmetic fix. The cake will look as good as new, but it will not stand up to shock and vibration as well as a new pressed powder will." He also added that"the alcohol method could affect the way the product dispenses onto your face," but that "it could be better than throwing the product away." We think it's definitely worth a try!

If you don't have any rubbing alcohol on hand you can use a setting spray to achieve the same effect. There are even some companies that specifically sell makeup repair kits which could come in really handy if you have a little one around the house who loves to experiment with your pricy products.
